Sargent R - is a piece about the stoic All American Black Cowboy. The piece uses the space pattern infill within the face. With African-Americans comprising up to 25% of the Cowboys of the American west, they numbered in the thousands. But with their inclusion in the history books or in westerns is in the single digits or not at all. The piece wrestles with the duality of pride and anonymity. 

The idea was to both show the pride and power of the stoic courageous Black Cowboy, while being truthful to the fact he is a faceless or nameless laborer. The power and swagger and spirit represented by pattern fill is rooted in specific symmetry, vectors, patterns, ideas, and colors specific to the American Southwest and elements of modern African American culture. This pattern represents true grit and spirit of a pioneer against all odds.
